Type 7 Plastic - Other (BPA, Polycarbonate and LEXAN)
The Type 7 category was designed as a catch-all for polycarbonate (PC) and "other" plastics, so reuse and recycling protocols are not standardized within this category. Anything which is not part of earlier 6 types of Plastic will be part of this. For eg:- Nylon, Fibreglass, Acrylic, Polycarbonate. Type 7 plastics are used to make baby bottles, sippy cups, water cooler bottles and car parts.
BPA is found in polycarbonate plastic food containers often marked on the bottom with the letters "PC" by the recycling label #7.
Type 7 Plastic Polycarbonate is the plastic that is made from the chemical Bisphenol-A (BPA). And BPA has a bad rap because it's a hormone-disruptor. Walk down the aisles of any drug store these days, and you'll find rows of plastic products labelled BPA-Free. BPA-Free water bottles...
Some polycarbonate water bottles are marketed as 'non-leaching' for minimizing plastic taste or odor, however there is still a possibility that trace amounts of BPA will migrate from these containers, particularly if used to heat liquids.
Type 7 plastics are not for reuse, unless they have the PLA compostable coding. Due to the vast differences of Plastic items in this classification, recycling may or may not exist.
