Environment care - Go Green

As responsible citizens not only of this country but of this Earth, we at Urjaa have initiated some of the following campaigns for creating awareness about the various environmental problems that we are facing:

  • Carrying out campaigns like "Plant trees - save the earth", "Save water", use of minimal plastics and avoid plastic use wherever possible.
  • We take part in planting of saplings thereby encouraging citizens to grow trees. We are conducting awareness about conservation of water which is becoming a great cause of concern for us due to the reducing rainfall each year.
  • Our approach is collaborative, and we work with different social organisations for different social causes.
  • In our Plastic collection drives we too collect E-waste, old clothes, shoes, bags, chappals from the citizens and send further for recycle or for use by the needy through different social organizations.

Let us create Awareness about less use of Plastic goods, how to dispose the Waste Plastic.
It’s high time to Save Environment with our right action!!!!

Plastic has become an integral part of our lives. From morning onwards items like toothbrush, toothpaste, biscuits and many other items wrappers are made of plastic.

After their use, we throw this plastic waste in the trash, so that we are free from our responsibility and hand it over to the municipal corporation. We ignore what this trash can do next, how it is disposed of.

It is very important that we understand how this garbage can be very harmful to human beings, natural beauty and wildlife.

July 3rd is celebrated as International Plastic Bag Free Day. From the same day, the work on reducing the use of plastic, recycling and re-processing was started. It is important to communicate this to the citizens.

On January 26, 2016, for the first time, we Urjaaians along with many citizens took oath in the local vegetable market to help clean the environment and free it from plastic with the help of banners/ posters and talking to the citizens to stop taking vegetables in plastic bags. In order to encourage this, we have distributed cloth bags too.

We named this campaign as "My plastic waste is my responsibility". Under this, we started going to school, college, societies, informing about the ill effects of use of plastic and its recycling. We also appealed people to collect the plastic waste separately and give it to Urjaa Foundation.

From Dec 2016 to September,2019 we have saved over 62 tonnes of plastic waste from the dumping grounds from 26 drives.

In this activity, the members of other organizations and the citizens also gave a good response. The campaign continued consistently in the local and nearby vicinity markets and shops.

We made pictorial standees with environment friendly messages and displayed on the vegetable, fruits stall in the local markets of Dombivli and Thane with the help of the veg. /fruit’s vendors.

While working on this it was felt that finding an option was important. We heard that it was possible to make polyfuel from plastic waste. While looking for a company that deals with this, we came across "Rudra Environmental Solution, Jejuri". Keshav Sita Memorial Foundation Trust is doing this work through other social organizations. They recycle the plastic waste into polyfuel efficiently and in an eco-friendly way. Urjaa Foundation took the first plastic awareness session in December 2016. We got a very good response.

We organized two programs where from Rudra – Dr. Medha Tadpatrikar held two lectures at Dombivli to create awareness about Plastic Waste. This is how plastic collection drive started.

In order to create the awareness about plastic and its ill effects, our members are conducting presentations and awareness programs for students in schools and colleges, citizens in societies and in the corporates.

For this Government bodies like local Municipal Corporation (Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation) and their employees have given full support by making their vehicle available from time to time, to collect plastic from various parts of the city. They have given storage space to keep the Plastic waste, which is collected by KDMC vehicles from various societies. In Dombivli city, KDMC has also given place to conduct the collection drive.

These collection drives and awareness sessions have been going on continuously since December 2016 in Dombivli and Thane. We receive plastic waste from citizens of these cities and neighbouring suburbs also.

We have citizens submitting their waste from far away suburbs like Grant Road, Andheri, Malad, Shahad, Ambernath and Badlapur too. This response has increased our resolve to make our cities free from plastic waste littering.

We have been receiving help from the citizens, senior citizens, school-college students, youths, volunteers and many other social organizations too.

Every forty to forty-five days at least one plastic collection drive is conducted.

We will continue our work for Plastic usage awareness and communicate hazards of excessive Plastic use and less than 50-micron Plastic bags harmful for environment.
